Rules of use
This is a translation for convenience. The German version (Nutzungsregeln) is the binding one.
These rules apply to Squorli Directory (directory.squorli.com): to Squorli accounts (@name) with their name, profile picture and direct messages, and to chat servers that sign in to the Directory or appear in its public server list. The operator is Daniel Klessa (see legal notice).
What is written in a chat server’s channels is governed by that server’s operator with their own rules and their own moderators; every Squorli server is run by somebody else on their own. The Directory’s operator can neither read nor delete channel messages.
1. What is not allowed
In your name, your profile picture, your direct messages and, as the operator of a chat server, in your server’s name, description and picture:
- Spam or advertising: the same message en masse, unwanted advertising, friend requests in large numbers, accounts that exist only to advertise.
- Harassment or bullying: writing to somebody again and again against their will, exposing or intimidating them; spreading other people’s address, phone number or other private data without their consent.
- Hate or incitement: degrading people for their origin, skin colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or similar traits, or calling for violence against them.
- Sexual content in names and profile pictures, and sexual content somebody did not want to receive. Any sexual depiction of minors is forbidden and will be reported to the authorities.
- Violence or threats: threatening, glorifying or calling for violence, spreading instructions for self-harm.
- Illegal content: anything forbidden under German law, for example fraud, phishing, malware, banned symbols or copyright infringement.
- Deception: pretending to be another person or organisation, or attacking or overloading the service or getting around its limits.
A chat server that mainly serves such content may not be in the server list and can be refused by the Directory.
2. Reporting
In the Squorli app you can report:
- a direct message with the flag on the message. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted, so your app sends the reported message in plain text and, if you leave the box ticked, up to 20 earlier messages as context;
- a Squorli account (“Report account” in the menu of a member or a friend); the Directory records name and profile picture as they are at that moment;
- a chat server (“Report server” in the server rail or in the server list), also with a channel message as an example, when in the report dialog you send it to the Directory’s operator instead of the server’s moderators. That is the way to go when the moderators do nothing or are the problem themselves.
You pick a reason from section 1 and can briefly describe what it is about. The reported person or the reported server’s operator never learns who reported. You can have one open report per message, account or server; you can send another once it has been handled. What happens to a report’s data is in the privacy policy, section 3.9.
If somebody’s life or safety is in danger, call the police (110 in Germany, 112 across the EU) at once – a report here is no substitute.
3. What the operator can do
The operator reviews every report personally; no automated system decides. Depending on how serious it is and whether it happens again, the operator can:
- for an account: issue a warning; remove the profile picture or the display names; suspend the account for 7, 30 or 90 days; delete the account. After a deletion, the key, the handle and the e-mail address stay blocked for a new account for 90 days, a year or for good.
- for a chat server: take it out of the public server list or refuse it. A refused server can no longer sign in to the Directory; the Squorli app no longer connects to it and says why.
During a suspension you cannot use friends and direct messages, change your profile or report anything. Chat servers do not let a suspended account in for that time, unless their operator has switched that off. Your key backup, your settings and deleting your own account stay open to you.
The operator can also report illegal content to the competent authorities.
4. Notice and objection
You get a notice of every measure taken against your account in the app and on the account page, and by e-mail if you have a confirmed address: which measure, for which reason and, for a suspension, until when.
If you think a measure is wrong, write to the e-mail address in the legal notice, with your handle and why. The operator reviews the decision again and answers you. Your right to go to court is not affected.
5. Changes
These rules are updated when the service changes. The current version is always at squorli.com/en/regeln/.
